‘Jeopardy’: Take a peek at the collection of guest hosts filling in
Game show fans everywhere are still mourning the passing of the late great Alex Trebek. We lost Trebek back in November 2020, and Jeopardy will never ever be the same. However, we’d like to think the king of the quiz show would want one of the greatest trivia games of all time to continue even without him, and Jeopardy addicts begrudgingly agree.
For a while, none of us could imagine Jeopardy without Alex Trebek. Who could possibly replace him as host? We think no one, in particular, could, and the people behind Jeopardy seem to agree. To fill the great void of Alex Trebek as host, a slew of different guest celebs have been taking to Jeopardy to guest star as host.
Furthermore, in Trebek’s humanitarian spirit, each guest host matches the contestants’ winnings and donates to the charity of their choice. Let’s take a look at who’ll be filling in for Alex as host of Jeopardy this summer.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta
Good Housekeeping reports rockstar doctor, neurosurgeon, and medical reporter Dr. Sanjay Gupta will be taking the reins as host of Jeopardy from June 28th to July 9th. Gupta will be keeping in the spirit of Jeopardy, giving audiences a host whose education shaped his life.
The doc took to Twitter in February when he got the news about his new gig, and told his followers he’s honored to do the job, and (like the rest of us) greatly misses Alex Trebek.
George Stephanopoulos
You might know George Stephanopoulos from currently co-anchoring ABC’s Good Morning America, but the journalist got his start as a political advisor.
In fact, Stephanopoulos was the White House communications director under the Clinton administration in the early 90s. We bet old George won’t have to look at his cards when any U.S. politics questions pop up this summer. He’s hosting from July 12th to July 16th.
Robin Roberts
Stephanopoulos’s Good Morning America co-worker Robin Roberts will come to host Jeopardy this summer when she’s not anchoring the hit ABC morning show.
The Mississippi native was a sportscaster on ESPN for fifteen years before heading to ABC, so we have no doubt she’ll be comfortable in front of the camera. Roberts hits the Jeopardy stage from July 19th to July 23rd.
LeVar Burton
Older millennials might remember LeVar Burton from PBS Kids’ Reading Rainbow in the 80s & 90s, but the actor has been in the biz since first starring in Roots as young Kunta Kinte. Burton’s acting credits speak for themselves, and he’ll be putting his training to use on ABC when he hosts Jeopardy from July 26th to July 30th.
David Faber
David Faber already co-hosts his own show, so we think he’ll take the Jeopardy job with ease when he takes the stage from August 2nd to August 6th. Faber has been working for CNBC for over two decades, but he’ll try to hold his own on ABC for the first time on Jeopardy this summer.
Squawk on the Street airs in the morning on CNBC, so we imagine Faber will be pulling double duty during the first week of August.
Joe Buck
We imagine mid-August Jeopardy episodes will feature some tough sports questions – Joe Buck is hosting from August 9th to August 13th. Buck is no stranger to fast-paced narration, as he has plenty of experience commentating for the NFL, along with dozens of MLB World Series since the mid-90s.
However, The Fox Sports commentator will leave the sports world (except for a few categories) when he jumps to ABC for a week of shows before the 2021 football season starts.
