After 2016’s Suicide Squad, which was directed by David Ayer, didn’t quite live up to expectations, James Gunn took over the reigns for a semi-reboot that makes for some of the most fun (and weird!) a superhero movie has been in quite some time. If you’re comfortable trekking to a movie theater, then early screenings for The Suicide Squad start as soon as early this Thursday evening. If you’re an HBO Max subscriber? Then life is pretty good for you, too. The service won’t do the cruel wait-until-three-in-the-morning thing to you, instead choosing to release the film at 7 p.m. ET this Thursday. So there’s really no excuse to hold off on this one, unless you’re that much of a Marvel stan. Either way, we support you.

The Suicide Squad will hit theaters and HBO Max on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.
The standalone sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad was originally scheduled for a release date of Aug. 6, but it’s coming a day early just for fun. Warner Bros. continues its simultaneous theatrical and streaming release plan, but note you only have a limited time — one month — to watch it online.

What time is The Suicide Squad released on HBO Max
The Suicide Squad will premiere on Thursday, August 5 on HBO Max in the U.S. and will be available as part of your subscription to the streaming service for 31 days from its theatrical release. It’s expected to release at 7pm ET / 4pm PT to fall in line with the movie’s ‘Sneak Preview’ showings in theaters beginning at the same time.
How to watch The Suicide Squad in the U.S.
If you live in the U.S. and don’t want to head out to a theater to watch The Suicide Squad, then you’ll need to be an HBO Max subscriber to watch the film online. Signing up for HBO Max will cost you either $9.99 per month to watch with ads or $14.99 per month to watch ad-free. Additionally, the cheaper plan only allows you to stream content in HD while the more expensive plan allows you to stream content in 4K. However, it’s worth noting that you’ll need a subscription to HBO Max’s more expensive ad-free plan in order to watch The Suicide Squad online.
For the price though, you’ll also be able to watch a number of other Warner Bros. films online the same day they premiere in theaters including Malignant, Dune and even the latest entry in the Matrix series later this year. HBO Max gives you access to all of HBO’s original programming including shows like Succession, Mare of Easttown and Westworld and the service will even let you watch a number of popular shows from other networks such as Friends and even Rick and Morty.

As HBO Max first launched in the U.S. and only recently launched in Latin America and the Caribbean, DC fans in the UK, Canada and Australia won’t be able to watch The Suicide Squad online. Instead, they’ll have to head out to a theater to see the new film but it will likely be available on other streaming services and VOD platforms later this year.

“The Suicide Squad” will premiere on HBO Max during a special preview on August 5 at 7 p.m. ET. Only members who subscribe to the ad-free plan will be able to watch the movie. “The Suicide Squad” will be available to stream on HBO Max for 31 days.
HBO Max’s ad-free plan costs $15 a month. The service offers a less expensive ad-supported option for $10 a month, but that plan does not include in-theater movies like “The Suicide Squad.” Hulu is currently offering a free seven-day trial of HBO Max to subscribers who sign up for its add-on service. To get the trial through Hulu, you must be new to HBO Max.
