Is Little Mix responsible for Jesy Nelson’s suicide attempt?
Fans of Little Mix were all incredibly devastated when bandmate Jesy Nelson announced last year back in December that she was officially leaving behind the music group to start her own solo career. Since then, a lot has happened including new music from the rebranded Little Mix without Jesy Nelson along with Nelson about to release her debut single as a solo star, and we can’t be any more excited to hear her new music.
However, while Jesy Nelson has made it clear in the past she wasn’t the happiest while being a part of Little Mix, the pop singer decided to open up a bit more on all of the struggles that she faced while a part of the group, which include struggling with tons of insecurities and even a suicide attempt. So just what happened that made the singer so unhappy in the group? Let’s take a look at all the details the pop star said recently here.

Opening up about her insecurities
So just why did Jesy Nelson leave Little Mix behind to start her own solo career? While speaking to Fearne Cotton on the “Happy Place” podcast, the star admitted that being in the girl group with her fellow friends Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Perrie Edwards was far from “living the dream”, and she said that she mostly felt “miserable and trapped” while being a part of Little Mix. But why was this the case for the singer?
The thirty-year-old-singer who said an official good-bye to Little Mix back in December, shocking and upsetting the group’s millions of fans, told Fearne Cotton that she felt super insecure while in the group, and said: “I guess the thing that I’m better with now is that I see little things now when I do a music video. I’m not looking at the camera and thinking, oh my God, I don’t look as skinny as Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie”.
“And that’s what I did every single day and, for the first time ever, I did my music video and I enjoyed it. I absolutely loved it and I was like, this is the feeling I should have had the whole time”, she said about the music video for her debut single as a solo artist titled “BOYZ” that will feature rapper Nicki Minaj set to come out this Friday. She reflected that “I felt very miserable and trapped and I knew that, that wasn’t right”.
Deciding to leave it behind
Jesy Nelson realized that it was time to leave Little Mix behind when she remembered that her constant insecurity was not good for the other girls, and said: “Also, it wasn’t nice for Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie to be around when I was so down, they we’re living their dream and I wasn’t”, and remembered that being a part of the group felt like being in “a machine”and said “I feel a lot of people think that it’s selfish I’ve left the group”.
However, she decided she had to make the decision for her own good, saying: “I really didn’t want to upset people and I didn’t want people to think that about me, but I don’t care any more. It was ten years of my life that I was very unhappy with and I needed to take myself out of that and genuinely do what’s going to make me happy. Some people may not understand that, but you live once and you have to do what makes you happy”.
She admitted that back in the day, her mom even wanted her to quit after the stress from being in the group led to a suicide attempt, and said: “I just remember obviously the first time, so obviously I’d taken an overdose. I went into hospital and then I had a music video like a week after. . . And obviously my mum found out and she was distraught and she was outright: ‘This is it, you’re not doing this anymore’”.
