Who is Hosting?
For the last several years, the Oscars have gone hostless—Jimmy Kimmel was the last host in 2018. This year, not only will there be an emcee, for the first time in history there will be three funny ladies taking turns on stage. It will be a three-act show comprising Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes; a different host helming each hour. The last time the Awards Ceremony had a trio of hosts was in 1987 when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, and Paul Hogan did the honors.
Who is performing?
It is still unclear whether performances will be live or pre-recorded like it was in 2021. However, Best Original Song nominees like Beyoncé (for “Be Alive” from “King Richard”), Billie Eilish (for “No Time To Die”), Lin-Manuel Miranda (for “Dos Oruguitas” from “Encanto”), Van Morrison (for “Down to Joy” from “Belfast”), and Diane Warren (for “Somehow You Do” from “Four Good Days”) are expected to hit the stage.
Wrapping up
To be considered for Hollywood’s greatest honor, a film must have been released between March 1 and December 31, 2021. The first pandemic-era Oscars, held last April, provided a roller-coaster ride of emotions. Over three hours, we saw Chloé Zhao become the first woman of color to win the Best Director, Yuh-Jung Youn flirt with Brad Pitt, and an absent Anthony Hopkins be named Best Actor over the fan-favorite Chadwick Boseman.
It is a tradition in the performing categories that last year’s Best Actor winner, namely Anthony Hopkins (The Father), presents the gold statuette to this year’s Best Actress, and last year’s Best Actress Frances McDormand (Nomadland) will hand the trophy to the new Best Actor. Given how many films were placed on hold in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 94th Academy Awards is sure to be filled with some heavy competition. No matter who wins, there is no doubt that it is going to be a glorious evening full of gowns, champagne, and drawn-out acceptance speeches. What do you think?
