‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ will hit theaters on July 8, 2022. The fourth Thor film promises tons of humor, with Taika Waititi back in the director’s chair.  

Thor: Love and Thunder is the summer superhero movie of our dreams. After fans spent months damn near begging for a shred of news from the film, we finally have not one, but two trailers—plus, some epic teases from director Taika Waititi.

Thor is set to return for a fourth solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a new film called Thor: Love and Thunder.

It’s one of the most anticipated non-Avengers movies ever, especially given some of the news and rumors that have been circulating about it. With this next MCU adventure debuting in cinemas this week, Pocket-lint thought now would be a good time to break down everything we know so far about Love and Thunder, plus detail how to catch up in advance of the movie’s premiere and also discuss when and where it’ll be available to stream after it hits theatres.

When Will Thor: Love and Thunder Be Out?

Thor: Love and Thunder will be given a theatrical release and premiere in the U.S. on Friday, July 8.

Unlike Black Widow, Thor: Love and Thunder will be exclusively available in theaters before being added to Disney+ at a later date. For those looking to avoid any spoilers, it is important to note that the action film will premiere a day earlier in several countries, including Australia and South Korea, on July 6.

When is Thor: Love and Thunder available to stream?

Will Thor: Love and Thunder be the Norse god’s final MCU outing?

That’s unclear right now. Before Ragnarok’s release in 2018, Hemsworth had become tired of portraying the same, slightly one-dimensional take on the character. Waititi’s revitalization of the superhero in Ragnarok, then, breathed new life into the god of thunder, with Hemsworth later telling UK TV program This Morning(opens in new tab) that he’d “play this character for as long as anyone would let me”.

Those comments were made back in April 2019, so nobody – Hemsworth aside – knows if he’ll return as Thor in future MCU projects. Hemsworth alluded to the prospect of hanging his hammer and cape up for the final time in a Wired(opens in new tab) interview, but he’s since told(opens in new tab) multiple(opens in new tab) outlets(opens in new tab) that he’d love to continue if there’s a compelling story to tell in subsequent movies. 

For his part, Waititi suggests that the appearance of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor doesn’t automatically mean that Thor’s MCU journey has ended. “I think a lot of fans are gonna potentially assume, ‘Oh, OK, this is the passing on of the torch,” he told Total Film(opens in new tab). “I’m not privy to any plans Marvel has for the future, but I don’t think that’s the case.”

Thor: Love and Thunder first reactions and reviews

The first reactions and reviews to Thor: Love and Thunder are in and they aren’t half bad.

Critic Matt Neglia tweeted: “Thor: Love and Thunder is a-rockin’ great time with electrifying action, lots of laughs (the screaming goats!) & a profound story on absent gods & our desire for love. Natalie Portman makes a mighty return & Christian Bale slays it as the terrifying Gorr. The best Thor film yet!”

Richard Nebens also praised Portman: “Thor: Love and Thunder are predictably hilarious yet unexpectedly personal and heartfelt. Christian Bale and Natalie Portman’s performances truly shine while Waititi delivers an emotional story. I think this may be my favorite Thor movie.”

Kevin Polowy had similar thoughts about the movie: #ThorLoveandThunder is f**king great. I think instantly one of my favorite Marvel movies – probably cause it’s easily the funniest, yet still had me choked up by the end. I hope Taika Waititi never stops making Thor movies.”

As detailed above, the first full-length trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder have been released, giving fans a look at Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor, aka Jane Foster, as she teams up with Hemsworth to protect the world.

“It’s just my first bad guy,” Jane says, with Thor replying: “You never forget your first.”

As the trailer comes to a close, Thor is presented before a council of gods, with Russell Crowe’s Zeus telling Thor: “Let’s see who you are. I take off your disguise.”

However, things don’t go as planned as Zeus accidentally strips off all of Thor’s clothes, and the women around Zeus begin to faint…The trailer also introduces fans to Gorr the God Butcher, the movie’s stony-faced villain, who is seen fighting with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) in the clip. Watch above.
