Here’s why you should enter the New Voice Short Film Festival
The Actors Coalition Network of Los Angeles brings together people looking to leave an impression on others through the magic of performance. By teaching workshops working with new performers through mentorship and training, the ACN looks to bring a new generation of performers to the best they can be.
One huge way they try to pass on their values is through the yearly New Voice Short Film Festival. Bringing together new and emerging filmmakers, the festival strives to give people unfamiliar with the industry and just getting started a safe space to show off their work. Even the judging is about looking at the film as a whole and encouraging new filmmakers to continue.
The festival is strictly newcomers
If you’re union or a professional, automatically your film will be overlooked. This is how the ACN guarantees that the filmmakers submitting their films into the festival can focus on the film itself, not trying to impress the judges or audience. Whether you’re a student filmmaker looking for their first shot, or someone who’s completely flying solo, your project is welcome here.
You get feedback, whether you’re first or last place
A lot of festivals will offer notes from an industry professional as a prize, but at the New Voices Short Film Festival, that’s a guarantee. Rather than just choosing a film, each film is given a score, and the films with the highest scores are the ones chosen as winners. But even if your film isn’t chosen as a winner, you will find out what your film scored and why it got the score it did. How can you improve without knowing what you’re doing wrong?
It’s just the beginning of your festival career
Other festivals are more likely to pick your project as an official selection if it has a history of being at festivals, and specifically winning other festivals. Even a smaller festival like the New Voice Short Film Festival is another achievement you can add to your film, and may just be your ticket to go on a festival run with your short.
You still have time to submit!
Probably the biggest plus is that the submission deadline for the New Voice Short Film Festival is still more than 3 months away. If you still have finishing touches to put on your project, you have time to finish and submit it to the festival. As long as your film is less than 45 minutes in length, it qualifies for this festival.
For films under 10 minutes, it’s only $50 to submit. Films between 10 and 25 minutes are $75, and films between 25 and 45 are $100 to submit. So if you’re a new to the world of film making, but looking for your first break, this is it. Take the plunge and submit your film to the New Voice Short Film Festival.
