Here’s why you need to enter The San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition
Thanks to COVID-19, the world of screenwriting looks a lot different now. Projects left and right that were postponed are being brought back from the dead, but studios are finding it hard to want to pick a new project unless it offers something unique and different to audiences.
You know your idea better than anyone else, so why not try and get the right people to look at it? The San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition is open for entries, and looking for the next great hit. For the past four years, this screenwriting competition has been giving up and coming screenwriters a chance to meet with execs and pitch their script to the right people.
A once in a lifetime chance
Do you know how hard it is to score a pitch meeting on your own? Even if you have all the right pieces, you could still be waiting forever for someone to hear your brilliant script. The San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition opens the door for you, getting you in the room with three separate talent managers or producers.
There, you can pitch your now award-winning script and get the gears turning on a future production written by you. This isn’t just any old screenwriting competition. As they describe on their FilmFreeway page, The San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition is looking for “ scripts so good they not only get made, but that they find their way to Sundance, Venice, Cannes, Edinburgh, and San Sebastian.”
Truly the best of the best
Created by writers of all backgrounds, The San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition isn’t necessarily a genre competition. In reality, they want to award a prize to a script good enough to become an award-winning movie.
Maybe this means you write a war epic like Saving Private Ryan. Maybe you’re taking on a complex biopic life Frida. Maybe you’re even writing the next Reservoir Dogs. It doesn’t matter what the subject of your script is. What matters is if it truly is the best of the unknown scriptwriters.
No limit to the talent
The best script writers in the world aren’t just in LA, or NYC, or London. They’re in a small village in the Philippines, or in a ski town in the Swiss Alps, or some small town in Argentina. The San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition is international because there is no limit on where a great script can come from.
You don’t have to be American to win this competition, let alone enter. The prizes stay the same, as anyone has an equal chance of becoming the next great screenwriter.
Entries are still open
If we’ve won you over to enter the San Francisco International Screenwriting Competition, you have until January 21st, 2021 at the latest to do so. Of course, like any screenwriting competition, the earlier you enter, the less in fees you have to pay too.
You can enter your script now on FilmFreeway. Enter as many scripts as you want, or as long of a script as you want. All ideas are valid for the competition. Winners will be decided on March 1st, 2021.
