Gloriously cockney, razor sharp crime caper series adapted from Guy Ritchie’s cult classic of the same name. A group of geezers, gangsters and scammers just starting out in the world of London’s organized crime ring find themselves way over their heads when they land themselves a stash of gold bullion. Loosely translated and expanded from Ritchie’s career-defining film, the new series keeps various elements such as the quick-witted dialogue, dim-witted lackeys, diamond-obsessed gangsters, and an Irish traveller with a mean right hook. Though the plot takes drastically different directions, it even keeps Ritchie’s slick aesthetics and finger-snapping editing. Though this TV adaption couldn’t muster up the likes of Jason Statham and Brad Pitt, Harry Potter alumni Rupert Grint is enough to warrant our interest. Throw him alongside some fresh faces like Luke Pasqualino (The Musketeers), Lucien Laviscount (Scream Queens) and Stephanie Leonidas (Defiance), and this heist might just slip down very nicely indeed. 2018’s second season promises even more gunfire, lucky escapes and unhinged cockneys for the hapless gang of wannabe crime lords.
